Rugged storage & industrial equipment since 1987

Built for the
conditions you actually have.

Cobalt Ridge designs rugged drives, edge compute, and field sensing equipment for the sites where standard-grade hardware quietly fails: distribution center freezers, sortation lines that never stop, loading docks, and store back-rooms that nobody gets to shut down to fix.

SF-40 / 4TB

The warranty promise

Coverage that assumes your equipment gets used the way it was actually built to be used.

Three years standard on the SF-40 family, extendable to seven. Backed by an authorized service network so a repair never has to be a guess.

Three lines, one enclosure philosophy

What we build

Every product Cobalt Ridge ships starts from the same premise: the electronics inside are usually fine. What fails is dust, vibration, heat, and whatever a well-meaning field tech did to the enclosure last winter.

Three catalogs, one design rule: every enclosure is sealed and calibrated as a unit at the factory. That is also why opening one outside an authorized service event ends the warranty, covered in full on the Support & Warranty page.

Rugged storage, flagship line

SF-40 Family

The SF-40 is Cobalt Ridge's sealed-enclosure rugged drive, built for equipment that sits in a distribution center freezer, on a sortation line that runs three shifts, or on a loading dock that never really closes. The name carries a small piece of engineering trivia: the 40 in SF-40 is the family's rated low-temperature limit in Celsius, not a model number.

Available in SATA and NVMe interfaces, 2.5 inch and M.2 form factors, in capacities from 1TB to 8TB. Standard on a three-year warranty, extendable to seven years under an Extended Care contract.

Rugged storage, commercial grade

CX Family

Built on the same sealed-enclosure principle as SF-40 for customers whose sites are demanding but not extreme: distribution center floors, store back-rooms, and standard dry warehousing rather than cold storage or a loading dock in January.

Warranty & service policy

Support & Warranty

Coverage terms, what ends coverage, how to open a claim, and how contract renewals work. If your equipment is part of a fleet under an account manager, they can walk through any of this directly; otherwise the Claims Portal is the fastest path.

Coverage summary

What is covered, and for how long

Standard warranty terms by product line

SF-40 family

Standard: 3 years, from installation date

Extended Care: up to 7 years total

CX family

Standard: 2 years, from installation date

Extended Care: up to 5 years total

IC-Series

Standard: 3 years, from ship date

Extended Care: up to 6 years total

Weathermark / EN-Series

Standard: 2 years, from ship date

Extended Care: up to 4 years total

Installation date is used for SF-40 and CX because field units commonly sit in a customer's own inventory before being deployed. IC-Series and Weathermark use ship date. Your contract number determines which applies; the Claims Portal looks this up automatically.

What ends coverage

Unauthorized configuration changes. Any firmware, RAID, or configuration change made outside an approved profile ends coverage for the affected unit, effective from the date of the change.

Unauthorized repair. Coverage ends if the enclosure is opened, or an internal part is replaced, by anyone other than Cobalt Ridge or a listed Authorized Service Partner.

Both rules exist for the same reason: SF-40 and CX units are sealed and calibrated as a single unit at the factory. Reopening one outside a controlled service event breaks the seal and can shift the thermal calibration the rating depends on. It is not a technicality, the part genuinely performs differently afterward.

Filing a claim

How a claim moves from report to resolution

Six stages, whether the claim is a single drive or a full line down. A claim is reviewed against the contract on file, the unit's service history, and, where a technician has already been out, the field service report.

01

Reported

The claim is opened and the affected unit is identified by serial or asset tag.

02

Stabilized

If a site is down, we work options to keep it running while the claim is worked.

03

Coverage Review

Your contract and the unit's service history determine what the warranty pays for.

04

Repaired

Parts and, where needed, an Authorized Service Partner get to the unit.

05

Closed Out

The commercial side of the claim closes out, including any goodwill review.

06

Fed Back

Verified failures are fed back into engineering and the product line.

Have the following ready before you start:

  1. Open the claim in the Claims Portal

Sign in with your account credentials and select the affected unit by serial number or asset tag. A portal session issues your RMA number.

  2. Provide proof of coverage

Your contract or purchase order number. The portal matches this against the contract record automatically for most accounts.

  3. Describe the incident

What happened, when, and under what conditions. Be specific about environment (temperature, exposure, impact) where relevant.

  4. Attach evidence

Photos of the unit and its asset tag or serial number, and a copy of the field service report if a technician was already dispatched.

  5. Disclose any configuration changes

State plainly whether the unit's configuration was changed outside its approved profile. This is checked against system records regardless, but an accurate claim resolves faster than one that needs to be reconciled.

  6. Track resolution

Most claims resolve within a standard cycle. Claims that fall outside strict contract terms may still qualify for a discretionary goodwill review by the Warranty Resolution team; this is decided case by case and is not guaranteed.

Launch Claims Portal Internal account network. Requires an active service contract login; not reachable from this page.

Authorized Service Partners

Repairs that keep coverage intact

Cobalt Ridge maintains a network of Authorized Service Partners trained and equipped to open, repair, and recalibrate sealed units without ending the warranty. Depot-level repairs run through Cobalt Ridge facilities directly; partner-level repairs run through certified third-party technicians in the field.

Partner status is not general electronics certification, it is specific to Cobalt Ridge enclosures and is renewed on a fixed cycle. Your account manager or the Claims Portal can confirm whether a given technician is currently listed.

Contract renewals

Extended Care renewals & strategic accounts

Renewal cadence

Extended Care contracts renew on the purchase anniversary. Reminders go out at 90, 60, and 30 days before the renewal date.

Strategic accounts

Larger fleets and multi-year contracts are assigned a dedicated account manager rather than routed through general support.

Lapsed coverage

A contract that lapses before renewal can typically be reinstated within a limited window; after that, units are treated as out of contract.

About Cobalt Ridge

Founding

Two engineers and a complaint about enclosures

Cobalt Ridge started in 1987 in a leased machine shop bay in Golden, founded by two mechanical engineers who had spent the prior decade building sensor and control housings for grocery cold-storage and warehouse conveyor systems. Their complaint was consistent: the electronics were usually fine, the enclosures around them were not. Freezer condensation worked its way in, conveyor vibration cracked solder joints, and field repairs, done with good intentions and the wrong tools, often undid whatever protection the enclosure was supposed to provide in the first place.

The company is named for the ridge west of town, a minor foothills formation named by prospectors in the 1870s for a vein of blue-gray rock that never produced much ore. It was picked for having no baggage and being easy to say, not for any connection to the metal.

The first product, a sealed housing for a commercial drive used in a warehouse sortation control system, shipped in 1989. Everything since has been an extension of the same idea: build the enclosure so the part inside it survives conditions the part was never rated for on its own.

How we write things down

What we mean by our values

We publish torque specs, not mission statements. If a value belongs on this page, it should read like an engineer wrote it and nobody softened it afterward.

Say what a part does, and what it does not

A spec sheet that oversells a rating is a liability wearing a warranty label. We would rather under-promise a number than have it fail in the field.

Test past the number on the warranty card

Rated limits are set with margin behind them, not at the edge of what a unit survived once in a lab.

Build serviceable on purpose

Sealed does not mean disposable. It means the repair happens under controlled conditions, which is also why the authorized-service rule exists and gets explained rather than just enforced.

Put a person on the phone before the contract runs out

Renewal reminders exist because a lapsed contract helps nobody, least of all a customer who finds out during a claim.
